Bank Account

Types of Bank Accounts

There are several different types of bank accounts but most folks start with a chequing account and/or a savings account. If you are a youth or a student, make sure to ask about low-cost accounts as they often have fewer fees.

How to Open a Bank Account

Use the Account Comparison Tool (opens in new window) to see what banks accounts cost at different banks.

It’s important to find out about the fees that banks will charge you per month to use your account. Some typical fees include how many times you can make transactions (take money out or put money in), costs for e-transfers, and printed statements.

Once you decide what bank you want to use, you can apply in person or online.

You will need to provide two pieces of ID (one picture ID and one other one like a birth certificate or SIN card).

A little bit about me is that I’m deeply passionate about supporting others, especially our Indigenous youth. I admire their resilience and the incredible gifts that they all possess as Anishinaabe peoples. My hope and aspirations are to amplify these strengths to help them reach Mino Pimatiswin! (The Good Life) 😊❤️
