College Transition Programs

Access Program – University of Manitoba

Get all the skills needed to be successful in trades, college or university. 

Eligibility 

    • 24 credits or less of post-secondary unless you are in the Health Careers Access program which requires 24 or more credits.
    • Living in a rural area, experiencing or experienced poverty, or your culture has caused barriers for you to get into university. 

Preference is given to

    • Indigenous peoples (Status, Non-Status, Inuit and Métis)
    • Residents of Northern Manitoba, 
    • Low-income earners 
    • Newcomers

Arts

Performing Arts Production and Industry – Seven Oaks School Division

For people who want to learn about film and theatre production

Eligibility 

    • Grade 11 or higher

What you receive

Experience

    • Technical sound, lighting, front and back of house production

Professional Photography – Red River College Polytechnic

For people interested in the creative and technical skills of digital photography

Eligibility

    • Mature students might be provided with an exception on eligibility requirements                    
    • Grade 10 Applied Math is strongly recommended
    • Ability to work in physically and socially challenging conditions

    • 19 years or older and completed or enrolled in Grade 10 or the RRC Academic Foundations program

Early Childhood Education - Louis Riel Arts and Technology Centre

    • The program prepares you to be ready for further post-secondary education leading to the Early Childhood Educator II (ECE II) designation. This training if for those who like to work with children and be organized.

Eligibility

  • High school students have completed Grade 10, or
  • Post-secondary students have completed Grade 12, or
  • 19 years old, have been out of high school for one year or more. Skill assessment might be required.
  • Must be able to pass a child abuse registry and a criminal records check.

Early Childhood Education (ECE) - Seven Oaks School Division

The program prepares you to be ready for further post-secondary education leading to the Early Childhood Educator designation.  

Eligibility 

    • Completion of Grade 11 core courses (done in semester one of Grade 11 year) 
    • Interest in working with and providing care to children of all ages 
    • Participation in an interview 
    • Completion of a Cooperative Vocational Education (CVE) application 
    • Presentation of a certified transcript of marks 

What you receive 

    • Child Care Assistant Certification 
    • Infant/Child CPR and First Aid training and certification 
    • Skip the first term at RRC ECE program 
    • Work experience

Youth Recreation Activity Worker Certificate

This program prepares you to work with youth who live in the inner city by providing healthy recreational activities.  

Eligibility 

    • Be between 18 to 29 years of age 
    • Live in the inner city (Inkster Boulevard and Corydon Avenue/Marion Street and McPhillips Street and Gateway Road) 
    • Pass the Degree of Reading Power standardized test 
    • Be able to work evenings 
    • In good health 
    • Be able to pass a criminal record check and child abuse registry check
    • Have experienced employment barriers 

What you receive 

    • Certificate from Red River Polytechnic (RRC) 
    • Credits towards the second year of Child and Youth Care worker program at RRC.  
    • Optional to receive 3-15 hours of Class 5 vehicle road test

Community Capacity Building Certificate – Booth University

To improve your skills in leadership in project management, strategy, implementation, and evaluation.

Eligibility

    • Must complete the application questions which include experience and/or knowledge in the following areas:
      • The communities you are part of, serve and intend to serve
      • What skills are you bringing to the program and what do you hope to learn
      • What are your experiences with community work
      • Which people have made an impact on you
      • Formal and informal education
      • What barriers have you faced and what barriers do you hope to eliminate or change

For careers in tourism such as front desk, housekeeping, food, and beverage service. It’s important to love working with people.

For careers such as a healthcare aid who can assist hospital patients, personal care home residents, or home care clients.

Eligibility

    • Graduation from or enrollment in high school with 1 credit in grade 12 English and math, plus either a science 10, 11, or 12 course, or
    • If you are 19 or older and have been out of school for at least one year or more, you can apply as a mature student and complete Degrees of Reading Power Assessment and
    • Can pass a criminal record check, child and adult check, immunizations check, and first aid.
